Race 2

First of all Race itself was not really that great. So one should never expect anything greater from its sequel !!! And then there is John Abraham. As a matter of fact, the entire team of race makes it look so lame and boring that I kept wondering from start to end that why don’t the makers provide a scroll bar in every cinema screen so that we can scroll the boring parts? Well in 'this' case we would see only the Title and the End Credits.

A quick three pointer is as follows:

1.     Overconfident Star-cast: - Saif Ali Khan and John Abraham "act" (rather behave) as if they are the only people who know acting. Anil Kapoor does the job worth what he is paid for. Amisha Patel & Jacqueline Fernandez are as just good for nothing.  Deepika Padukone underlines the fact that she has no clue why she is in "acting" industry.
2.    Pathetically Boring Storyline: - As Race 1 was filled with unending twists and shocks; it was pretty much clear that Race 2 would follow the same footsteps. Watching this movie, gives you a rather paranoid experience than entertainment. The story is so poorly written and executed that the editor must have slept on job.
3.    The music really sucks: - At least there was one good thing in Race 1. Its music. Though copied or inspired from some foreign tunes, Pritam had done a decent job in making it sound audible for certain period of time. For Race 2, he was so lost, that he (by mistake) lifted tracks from Race 1 (getting confused for them being original foreign songs) and played the same ones again with new lyrics.

All in all, it was a total waste of time, money and whatever valuable thing a billionaire can imagine. I want to sit in the same room with these guys while the writers are narrating the story to the "stars"…..and at the end of it want to say
Bullshit….get a life !

Student Of The Year

First off, a million thanks a to Mr.(??) Karan Johar...for making such an amazing cinema. With the amazing story-line and the amazing pace, I could not even realize how the time passed while watching a beautiful imagination appear on the celluloid.
I mean really, I am grateful to Mr. (again “??”) KjO...for making the young generation show how the school life should be enjoyed...or better...how it should be lived. How competitive you must be throughout...even if your father is a billionaire.
I really learned a lot. I passed my school about 15 years back...and I really got worried, after watching this “fantastick” melodrama, about my achievements.

The guy who wins the Student of The Year award goes out in the world to become the most successful musician (really?) and grows beard to look serious...an ultimate idea !

The guy who loses the competition by an inch or so...becomes the very successful investment banker....with a company that has a turnover of about 400 crore (oh come on !)....marries the most beautiful girl from school who initially was the winner’s girlfriend...but eventually realizes her true love....
and after all these achievements the “foe turned friends turned foe again”...come to see their dying teacher who had ended the SOTY competition with a lot of controversy and drama...and they fight...and then they start cursing each other...and then the fight stops and just the cursing continues....and they unearth the secret (you kidding?) that was kept hidden for 10 years...(of course the secret is about how the winner guy wins and knows that the loser guy lost it on purpose)....and then the foes...turn friends again on measuring their successes based on how many girls (this is too much) they were with....
I literally could not move an inch from my seat until the movie was complete...even after the end credits (because I did not really understand why the movie began and why and when and how it ended....basically in sheer confusion)
So a quick three pointer could be as follows:-

  1. The actors are really the directors' actors. As the Dhawan lad...appears pretty much like KjO himself (even he looks like him at times I suspect)...while the Bhatt girl....is told to mime the leftovers Pooo from K3G....the third guy....(He is the tall version of Shahid Kapoor who enacts SRK at every step probably because KjO said so)...dons a pretty good job...and delivers what has been told.
  2. The music appears to be good...as it is a mix of all the old peppy songs such as Disco Deewane, the intros of the characters...Gulabi Ankhe...Papa Kehte Hai, etc...and stolen (I am sorry, please read “Inspired”) guitar pieces from all over the world every now and then...but it sucks big time...when it shows the original pathetic numbers.
  3. The movie is totally made for youngsters, who may not understand or are beyond understanding the difference between facts, fictions and MTV Roadies....for girls who envy to be the most beauti'fool' girl and think the guys are hot only since they have abs....for boys who believe that Indian education system is so wrong and it should not be measured on the academic achievements.....and for people who have nothing to do but sit at home and just chill because they do not have “anything in FRONT of them” to achieve.

But to be honest, I slept like a baby the night I saw the movie....and I was dreaming to be in a similar school one day....where I can go in a lamborghini and still drink coffee at the stall outside campus...where my talents were measured on my treasure hunting intelligence, dancing skills and my stamina to win a triathlon and not on my academic records at all...and even though I suck at all of them...I would grow old to be one of the most successful people in the world...such as Investment bankers (yeah right...!!!) and lawyers (thats what I thought when I looked at you)....etc.
Where I could have the ability to spot a fat (ready to burst or better ‘a bullfrog’) guy smile while watching his kid lose in the full packed stadium while I am running the last race of the triathlon head to head with my foe turned friend turned enemy...
And then I woke up...got ready....went to work....sat in front of my laptop and started working....and thought....
“It was nice to see Farida Jalal after a really long time“

Endhiran – The Robot

Aishwarya Rai has been internationally acclaimed for her beauty, her acting, her charm , her charisma. She has been in news since being Miss World …dating Bollywood’s most eligible bachelor…(yet)…being the first daughter in law of the first family and now this is her final achievement….she got a role to play with GOD…!
The Superstar has done it again…he was the greatest hero so far and now he is the greatest villain too. Only Rajnikanth can beat Rajnikanth and he has proved it with this new venture; Robot. It is difficult for me to express the entire experience in three points but I have tried hard to be brief:
You must watch Robot because -
1. It’s a Rajnikanth film….(This is enough actually)
2. Whatever fun / jokes people make about him being the ultimate ‘Super-Superhero’ AKA ‘Super-Chuck Norris’, he has done it all in the film and trust me you have to keep telling yourself to believe he is 60 years old.
3. We loved ‘Sivaji-the Boss’, we adored ‘Dabangg’, we can’t think of missing this opportunity to glorify ‘Endhiran – The Robot’

In the film in a scene Rajni says to Aishwarya Rai, “Duniya mein do hi cheez soch kar banayee hai; ek mein ……aur ek tum…!” How dramatically he quotes the universal truth! Aishwarya may be great but not before our own Rajni.

Inception

After so many days I felt an urge to update my blog. Meanwhile I thought of writing about Raavan, IHLS, and so many other disappointing movies. But I left the thought of wasting time and energy. When I saw INCEPTION.....I was speechless..... at first and then a sudden uncontrolled flood of thoughts rushed and crowded my mind. Hats off to 'Christopher Nolan' the director the writer. A humble salute to the idea.

There are hundreds of theories presented, about DREAMS and Reality. There may be hundreds of stories written about alternate and virtual reality. But this experience makes you shiver from inside and drags you to a different 'Level' of understanding the dreamworld. Our dreamworld was limited to 'Alice in wonderland', 'Harry Potter', 'Vampire love stories', 'Chronicles...', 'The ring stories', 'Aliens' and the likes so far.....Every attempt is a Gem in itself and now 'Inception' proves to be a 'Kohinoor'....A quicker 3 pointer can be as follows:

1. After Memento, Batman Begins, Prestige and The Dark Knight, I am sure anybody can and should go for anything that is directed by this 39 year old Director..

2. Not only Leonardo DiCaprio but everyone in the film performs so power-packed, that they have actually made the director/writer's Dream come true....

3. Each and every complex idea is explained so well throughout, that you feel like learning trignomery was a piece of cake........ [I suggest to watch it without trying to explore it !]

There is a thin line between reality and dreams. DiCaprio and Nolan has dragged the audience and made them feel and realize the necessity to be on that thin line. 'Inception'...is not a movie...it is an experience to believe that we may be real or dreaming....who knows a part of us may be waiting somewhere for our END....... to wake up from the dreamworld.......:)

Pyaar Impossible !

It occurred to me recently that my dictionary not only has the word ‘Impossible’ in it but also it had a synonym. In fact when I searched for the word ‘Lame’ it gave me the title of this movie as the exact match. No more discussion; let’s have a quick three pointer:

1. Its writer, screenplay producer and actor, is Uday Chopra [has to be else who writes a role for him these days?], which gives it a negative point right from the beginning. Additionally it has Dino Morea to spoil the remaining broth.

2. I cannot believe that Priyanka Chopra too can compete with Uday in acting. I could not believe that the National and Filmfare award winning actress can be so flimsy and superficial (search for synonyms of these two to add up more). To my surprise Uday did a better job than PC sometimes.

3. Music is unbelievably boring and nugatory. You just can’t stand it. I dare you all to listen to the entire PI album even once. If you succeed I will give you a PI movie DVD. {lolz}.

It is unfair to write the fourth point just to extend the blog. Just look at the poster of the movie and think if you would really care to watch even the first censor certificate on screen?

Kurbaan: Some Love Stories have Blood on them…….

I think ‘1942: a Love Story’ was one of the films which started a new style of Movie Titles with side titles; in English particularly. But then there were so many movies which a smaller English tagline which would and should describe a short summary of the film. But very few side titles were apt. ‘Daag….the fire’, ‘K3G….it’s about loving your parents’, ‘Lagaan……Once upon a time in India’ and the likes. But when few months back I got the chance to see the first look of the movie it was only some portion of Saif ali Khan – shirtless with the above mentioned title. And when I saw the movie I realized the side title would have been more apt for the movie Twilight which is the love story of a Vampire. A quick review of the movie is as follows:

  1. The story of the movie is 80% same as that of ‘New York’, ‘Dil se’, ’Fanaa’ and so many terrorist love stories. Bottom line is nothing new.

  1. It has Vivek Oberoi with his usual ‘full of attitude’ and ‘ He is the only actor on earth’ expressioned face.

  1. Saif unfortunately cannot do anything special to leave the impact while Kareena seems to be turning into an anorexic.

The good side of the film is, the Islam issues are very well debated & justified against white American approach toward Muslims. Music is good but overall it is a shear waste of time.

Dil Bole Hadippa

YRF is the banner which a long time back used to give movies like Chandani, Silsila, DDLJ.....basically good and sober love stories with sensible drama in it. But since last few years, (specially since when they thought of launching Uday Chopra) they have degraded their standard with replacements of white, transparent chiffon saris with small skirts, bikinis and short pants......with moving from nainital, shimla ki vadiya to anytime anywhere in Punjab de khet and pahaadees.....

Thats why when I began to watch this new movie of YRF, I was never excited or expecting it to be above their standards. It is a normal film with regular drama and mixture of ideas of so many hit movies. Following is its quick three point review ........

1. A very pathetic storyline with regular star-cast and cliched punjabi locations and folk music.

(Actually I am done in one point but still..... I am an autopsy lover)

2. Cricket has proved to be good game live, not recorded - specially immediately after IPL and 20 -20 world cup - they have failed to show the drama of the game in the movie

(Even Yuvraaj Singh cannot tell before hitting 6 sixes which Rani does with extraordinary confidence........sheer impossibility)

3. It has Rakhi Sawant and Sherlyn Chopra.......which are supposed to be for thurkeys....but even both of them disappoint........

Two things I should mention:

One) Rani has performed absolutely fantastic along with a cute Chhota sardaar getup..... but the idea is wasted and

Two) Shahid Kapur has played a smart gamble - if the movie is a hit, another hit on his name and if its a flop, people will not remember it as his movie......

P.S.: This movie is an adaptation of a 2006 English flick 'She's the Man' starring Amanda Bynes
